where to go from here?

i don't know. i feel like each way i turn that there is a brick wall. everyone has the best intentions, i don't doubt that, but they're not listening. i was told i wasn't being mocked about a comment that i had found a calmer place, the individual was only being facetious. wow. sounds like the same thing to me. and then today, i emoted that i wasn't feeling supported because it seemed like it was only a one-way dialogue of lectures, the response i got was an unstifled laugh to indicate such disbelief that my pointing this out was a one-way dialogue itself. no matter how bad a situation or what you feel about it, i can't help but feel that a little bit of empathy can go a long way and never leads down this path. trying to fix everything usually does.

Sounds like a series of conversations in which you and others are talking past one another. Have you really heard what they said or just don't like what they say? Can you understand why they've taken the position they have? Does it make sense, at least to them? How have you communicated with them? Clear, to the point but empathetic to their point of view? Was this person someone who would normally use mocking as a part of their interplay with others? If not, it's perhaps a matter of your perception of the speaker's intent that is the issue--again another indicator that you may not be evaluating another's perspective accurately. In general, a very self-focused rant (count the number of I's). It's your blog, so I guess that's understandable. Nevertheless, nothing worth doing ever gets done alone...
